Chippiparai Hound

This southern Indian breed was developed speccally for hare-hunting, although it now has other roles as well. Its name has sometimes been given as Chippirai.

In shape, the slender, white-coated Chippiparai is a typical greyhound, with very long legs and a streamlined body. Although its primary duties are associated with the hunt, in recent years the Madras police force has started training members of this breed as police dogs, with some success. This has the advantage of avoiding the expense of importing foreign police dogs.

In personality, this is a one-man dog. It does not like being touched or patted by strangers.
