This extinct sighthound, which was once found in the hottest regions of India, was used for hunting small game.
Little is known about this breed, which had vanished by the middle of the 19th century. In appearance it was likened to a naked greyhound with pricked ears. It had grey or red skin, with tufts of hair on its head, legs, feet and tail-tip. Its thick, wrinkled skin was able to withstand the rigours of hunting, even in areas where it had to push its way through the undergrowth, although it was kept as much for its curiosity value as for its hunting ability.
