Kaikadi Dog

This breed is named after the local people who keep them for hunting small animals.

A little-known breed of Indian sighthound, this dog is said to resemble the Whippet in appearance, but with a straight top-line. Some authorities believe that it is a close relative of the Caravan Hound. It is a type unique to the nomadic Kaikadi people from the region of Maharashtra, to the east of Bombay in central India. A smallish dog, it is skilled at hunting monkeys, jungle rats, rabbits and other small mammals. At night it is used as a camp watchdog.

This is a slender, long-legged, fast-moving dog with a lightning snap of its strong jaws, capable of snatching any unwary prey. The coat colour is variable, but is usually a mixture of white, black and tan.
