Polish Greyhound

Sometimes referred to as the Polish Sighthound, in its borne country this breed is called the Chart Polski; in France the Lvrier Polonais; in Germany the Polnischer Windhund; and in Spain the Lebrel Polaco. It was originally developed to bunt wolf, deer, fox and rabbit.

Looking like a strongly built English Greyhound, this elegant, ancient Polish breed nearly became extinct, but local enthusiasts have recently revived it and today there are over 100 of them in existence. It was recognized locally by the Polish Kennel Club in 1981. A few have found their way to the United States, where the first litter was born in 1991, in Maryland.

The coat is short and hard, with some slight feathering on the tail and rear end. In personality it is said to be unusually intelligent, affectionate and obedient.
